Top Ten – Same Message

What makes people pledge themselves to each other for life? I see that the Co-Op Funeral Service has a list of the top ten funeral songs. At number one is Angels with Robbie Williams. Tina Turner, Celine Dion and Frank Sinatra (My Way)  are also in the list.

For the record, I would choose only the hymn ‘Just as I am’.  This implies a difference of culture but maybe not of motive. To deconstruct, everyone is saying:

‘I (s/he) had bad sides. I s/(he) did his/her best. Perhaps they didn’t but how else can you look at it?’

‘There was love, cherishing, affection. Where has it all gone?’ ‘It’s got to exist somewhere.’ Surely all that sweetness is not for nothing. It’s not. It really is not.

1 John 4:7: ‘Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God and knoweth God; for God is love.’

In that promise all enmities will be resolved: here or hereafter.
